Food Protection: Classroom Training
The Food Protection Course trains individuals in food protection practices to ensure the safety of the food served in New York City's food establishments. The NYC Health code requires that supervisors of food service establishments and non-retail food service establishments be certified in food protection. Completion of this course and passing of the final exam satisfies that requirement.
The Food Protection Course is available in person in English and Spanish. Class materials are available in multiple languages. Study materials prior to attending class.

FREQUENCY AND DURATION: The course is 15 hours long and is given over two (2) days and each daily session is six (6) hours long. The final exam is given on the third day at the NYC Health Academy 160 W. 100th St., NY, NY. A “head shot photo” is taken for your license and a 1-hour course review is provided prior to the quiz. The Food Protection Course Training Manual (PDF) and Class Review will be emailed when registration and class fee is received. Other Languages: Español
FINAL EXAM: Participants who complete the Food Protection Course and pass the final examination are issued certificates. Final exam (50 question Multiple Choice quiz) is given on the scheduled exam day. Students passing the exam will be mailed their certificate. 70% minimum passing grade. The exam is graded immediately upon completion. Exams are offered in multiple languages.

Chris Argento, MA, RD, CEC, CCE is a NYCHD approved course instructor, who has been teaching NYCHD’s Mandatory Food Handlers class since 1992. Chris is a Certified Executive Chef, Certified Culinary Educator, and Registered Dietician and conducts Mock Inspections to insure NYCHD and USDA Code Compliance. This is a fast paced, interactive and fun and rewarding class.
